“We are Rob & Emily. We became bored and frustrated up with the repetitive 9-5 daily grind. Working six days a week to go on holiday once a year kinda felt like a bum deal to us.
We wanted something more fulfilling and enjoyable, so we converted a van into a home which we live, work and travel in: The Road Is Our Home"

The Road Is Our Home: NC500 - In our cosy van conversion we headed to northern Scotland and went on a winter road trip around the legendary North Coast 500 (aka NC500). However, our timing wasn't that great, as it was winter and storm Eric was heading in our direction with no sign of letting up. We spent nine days driving our van conversion around the some of the most incredible roads we've eve...

Beautiful 😊
So where did you go again?
Hey thanks for the comment. A mix of reasons for us not posting anymore but mainly, we’ve been travelling and have decided that we just prefer to focus on enjoying our travels instead of focusing on filming it. After battling through cancer a few years ago, I think it just sorta changed the way we feel about creating content. That’s not to say we definitely won’t be making any new material, it’ll just be a case of creating videos when we feel like it rather than when the YT algorithm says it’s best to. Genuinely appreciate your comment though, thanks - Rob, Em & Nacho 🤙🏼
SERIOUSLY.. Thousands of builds have inside showers. This is just another race around like the energizer bunny for 95% of the vid doing who knows what or why and then slowly do panorama of a build with no place to sit, no place to eat, a stove top but no fridge...bit, oh yeah, some commentary posters on slide outs that never show until u pull that thing out! Waste of time vid.
Hey! Only just seen this comment and it’s confused me a bit. I’m not sure what you’re ranting about. We’ve been living and travelling in this van for the past seven years and I can confirm, it has seating, it’s has a fridge, it has somewhere to eat and everything we need to live wherever we want. We’ve travelled all over the uk and Europe and seven years later still happily living this way in this van. Anyways, sorry our video upset you so much, hope you find peace someday.

good to see you enjoying life rob, bob yon dad
Stunning build!! Love the colors, especially the dark blue tile... and how you arranged everything! A private bathroom... IF you are living van life, is an absolute must. If I start to see a new build and it doesn't have a bathroom with a toilet for #1 and 2... I skip it. Have no idea how people "plan" the #2? You did a fantastic job!
Thanks for the compliments! It’s funny, when planning I didn’t want a separate bathroom but my Emily insisted and now I wouldn’t be without one.
Very good 👍
Very nice video 👍
Rob I know it’s your passion to create amazing video content and the last time we spoke you said you wanted to share your passion with others and by have you done it it looks amazing I just wanted to let you know I am live in the full-time van life now and you inspired me massively❤️

Nice to see yous back!!!
Yeah baby!!!
We too are so pleased to see you back. You were also our first vlogs that we viewed and were so sorry when we heard you were so poorly, so really pleased to hear you are back, look forward to watching the films again 😍
Aww thanks for sticking around 😊 Looking forward to sharing new stuff!
I never leave comments, but had to let you know how pleased I am that you're starting posting again. Your NC500 and van tour were the first van films I watched on you tube 3 years ago and got me obsessed! Your van layout is still one of the best I've seen and believe me I have seen a LOT over the past 3 years! Ours is still in the planning stages, but there will definitely be elements of yours in there when it eventually happens! Looking forward to the new content especially the new builds you mentioned!
Thanks for the kind words Emma, really means the world that you’ve stuck with us 😊 Glad that our build was some inspo to you. You’ll have to show us some pics once it’s done, would love to see it. 👍🏼
@@TheRoadIsOurHome Yep I've kept you on my subscribe list and have been checking to see if there were any updates - did a little whoop when I saw your post ☺️. You may have to wait a while to see the van - still saving the pennies and making plans at the moment but thanks for the encouragement!
looking forward to it. enjoy your music too
Thanks John ☺️👍🏼
Welcome back 💕
Thanks! 😊
Hell yeah! 🤘🏼
How does anyone do this if he lives in an apartment without garage and all the tools?
I'm an ex mechanic (which is handy) and we carry all of my tools with us.
@theroadisourhome What did it weight once it was finished?
from memory it came out at around 3200kg. That's fully loaded, including water, fuel, us etc.
What's the grey tape you put directly onto the walls and floor of the van before cladding it?
It’s called Flash Band. Used for sound deadening. 👍🏼
@@TheRoadIsOurHome thanks.
Beautiful design a workmanship. Awesome!
Thanks jack 👍🏼
how do you take care of the heat? it must be scorching in there when its summer right?
Hey! Due to the way we’ve insulated it, the living area stays a comfortable temperature all year. Insulation keeps it cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
how did you find spending the early evenings? i was plan to do this mid november but sunsets around 4ish not sure what i can do during the cold long nights, how cold was the temp?
The early sunsets did restrict us quite a bit tbh. Get up early and make the most of the day. I’m a photographer so I’d be editing throughout the evening. In February it got down to -7*c outside. The van stayed a toasty 21 inside though! We’re heading there again in February. The upsides of visiting in the winter are; no midges and the roads are much quieter.
Heading over in two weeks to rent a campervan..... you've made us completely reroute our trip! This looks great!!! thanks for the heads tips and the heads up. What was the parking app you mentioned? I cant find an app to show us some free spots for wild camping... Thanks!
That’s so cool! No doubt you’ll love it. The app is called ‘Park4night’. Enjoy your trip!
Hi. I did the NC500 too.....would be great to do a collab on UK travell... here is my NC500 video link...... ruclips.net/video/OoM5WzxoISI/видео.html
Superbe travail bravo 👍
What go pro do yous use? I’m just back the NC500, and your video is amazing
4,23 the meal looks very nice i want some :)
Absolutely loved this video .. thanks so much guys ! we are going mid September so I am proper doing my research ! haaa I will probably still bring a woolly hat in September :) x fab video and editing was gorgeous ! xx
Enjoyed you video.thanks..
Wow, just wow!
Just checking in, hope all is well...
Nice
Amazing setup! very impressive :)
Loved your vid, but would recommend doing in the other direction going north up the west coast but instead of doing the entire east coast, the A836 going south from tongue down to Lairg then the A839 back to Golspie and then back to Inverness is a really nice alternative to the east coast A9 which is a bit dull
Very nice! My only suggestion would be access to the cab area if you need a quick getaway
We thought about that, but preferred the security and extra insulation/worktop. We’ve been full time in it for a few years now and it’s not been an issue not having access. 👍🏼
Great Video, looks like you had a fantastic trip!
Thanks for the compliment 👍🏼 it was a memorable one for sure!
Amazing😍
Thanks 😊

Amazing car 👍
Show😃✨💯🌟❤️
I loved the background music. Which album.
It’s by The Mountain Howl, not sure which album, think it might just be a single.
Great photography, thanks.
This is the best van ever....can't fault it beautifully decorated comfy light .....I would have a pull out shade and a dog .....cheers from Melbourne ....
Appreciate the compliments Jan 👍🏼 we have been joined by a pup! 😊
Best travel vlog I've watched. Really well done, beautiful videography and informative.
Thanks for the compliments David, much appreciated 👍🏼
Great vid. Very pro as well as true to you.. Well done We would love to do it with a 5.2 m long caravan we are getting but I think the roads may be just to narrow. What do you think?
Thanks for the kind words George. As frustrating as it is, I wouldn’t recommend doing the whole route with a caravan. Parts of it, such as Bealach na Bà, were tricky enough in our LWB van. You could possibly do some of it with the caravan though, might be worth asking on some caravaning sites for advice. Hope this helps 😊👍🏼
@@TheRoadIsOurHome We have decided to stop at sites nearby and tour bits of it bit by bit. We have seen lots of it when kids were toddlers and youngsters
